When using dynamic pricing for your electricity it is beneficial to schedule your appliances like washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, etc. to those time slots that have the lowest energy price.
Some smart appliances already provide such features, other smart appliances only provide a way to select and start/stop a program and dumb appliances don’t provide any means to do so.
This guide focuses on bringing scheduling capabilities to those appliances that don’t support it.

I’m getting more and more requests to implement network control for my Home Assistant BenQ Projector integration. The network control of the BenQ projectors seems to be just a telnet connection running on TCP/IP port 8000 and the same commands as used over the serial connection should work over the network connection. This shouldn’t be to difficult to implement. However I don’t own a network connected projector and have thus not implemented any network functionality, yet. A simple RS-232 to WiFi module and some software should be enough to simulate the existence of a network connection on my projector.
I started my home automation hobby about 6 years ago with Pimatic. Since a year I’ve been working with Home Assistant and have now converted all the plugins that I had written for Pimatic to Home Assistant integrations.
(more…)Today a new smart meter is installed and unfortunately my homemade P1 cable, needed to communicate with the device does not work on this new meter. I switched from an ISKRA ME382 to an ISKRA AM550.
(more…)I can now operate the AXA Connect 2.0 window openers via serial port and a level converter. I immediately wrote a Python library and a Home Assistant integration. Ultimately I want to control them via an ESP, but that’s something for an other time.
